Anne MacKinney

Guest researcher in the Research Department "PAN – Perspectives on Nature" within the Science Programme "Public Engagement with Science"

Associate researcher in DFG-Project “The appropriation of world knowledge – Adelbert von Chamisso’s voyage around the world (transcription, analysis, interpretation)”, at the Center of Natural History (CeNak) at the Universität Hamburg.

I studied History and German at the University of California, Berkeley from 2008 to 2012. From 2012 to 2015 I studied History at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and completed my Master’s degree with a thesis on Adelbert von Chamisso’s research practices aboard the ship “Rurik” during his voyage around the world (1815-1818).

Since 2015 I am a doctoral candidate at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and an associate researcher at the Center of Natural History (CeNak) at the Universität Hamburg. In my dissertation I study several travelling naturalists (among others, Adelbert von Chamisso) who helped expand the collections of the Berlin Zoological Museum in the early 19th century. I am particularly interested in the listing practices naturalists used to administrate and order the collection objects.
